3/4 cup shortening (yes shortening, I use the butter kind)
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 beaten egg
2 cups all purpose flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. ginger

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º

Mix ingredients and roll into 1" balls, then roll in granulated sugar.

Bake for 8-10 minutes. I like them soft so I bake them for 8 minutes, but if you like yours hard you would put them in for the full 10 minutes.
