Step 1:
2 gallons large cucumbers, peel, remove seeds, and slice
2 C lime
8 1/2 qt water

Soak for 24 hours. Throw away lime water.

Drain and wash with clear water. Soak 3 hours in cold, clear water. Drain.

Step 3:
1 C vinegar
1 oz red cake coloring
1 TBS alum

Add enough water to cover cucumbers. Heat and simmer 2 hours. Drain off all juice and throw juice away.

Step 4:
3 C vinegar
4 C water
5 lb sugar
8 sticks cinnamon
2 pkgs red hot candies

Heat this mixture until boiling. Pour over red rings and let stand over night.

Step 5:
Drain off all liquid for 3 mornings and heat it. Pour boiling liquid back onto red rings. On 3rd morning, heat pickles and liquid. Bring to a boil. Pack in sterile jars and seal.
