1 qt okra
2 C milk or buttermilk
2 C cornmeal
2 tsp black pepper
2 tsp salt
2 C oil

Directions:
Directions:
Wash and slice okra about 1/2 inch thick. Put in a bowl and cover with milk. Let stand 30 minutes then drain. Put the cornmeal, salt, and pepper in a bag; add okra and shake until all okra is thoroughly coated. Heat oil to 380º in skillet. Then add the okra to make a single layer, turn once and remove when good and brown. Place on paper towels to drain then put in warm oven at 200º for 30 minutes
