Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 C flour
1 tsp salt
2 TBS shortening
1 egg
1/2 C buttermilk
1/2 C water
1/8 tsp baking soda
1 stick real butter
1 chicken, cooked and boned
Chicken broth

Directions:
Directions:
Blend dry ingredients well with shortening. Beat egg and add along with water and buttermilk and blend all together. Put lots of flour on your surface board and kneed extra flour into the dumplings. Roll out very thin and cut into squares about 1 inch.

Have the chicken cooked and removed from broth. Bring about 8-9 cups of the broth to a rolling boil and drop dumplings in. Stir often and add black pepper to taste. After all of the dumplings have been added turn the heat down to low and simmer about 15 minutes. When you turn down the heat for the last 15 minutes add the chicken and butter and let simmer with the dumplings.

It is easier to roll out the dumplings if the dough is divided into 3 portions first- don't cheat on this part, they must be really thin. These usually have a good amount of pepper, too.
