Ingredients:
Ingredients:
2 C sugar
1 C buttermilk
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla
2 C pecans
1 TBS butter

Directions:
Directions:
Put sugar and buttermilk in a large kettle or saucepan. Mix well. Add soda and continue to stir over low heat. Keep heat low, do not boil over. Cook until it forms a soft ball in water and turns a brownish color. Add pecans and stir until it looks glazy or slightly bright. Add vanilla and butter. Remove from heat immediately and spoon small quantities onto waxed paper to cool. Paper should be placed on baking sheets if possible.

In spooning mixture up, if it becomes too hard, return to heat for a moment stirring to prevent sticking or burning until thin again. Continue to spoon up candy until all is completed. Let cool then wrap each piece individually in waxed paper. Have all things ready before starting the process of cooking.
