Clean and sterilize jars and lids. Wash cucumbers of all grit, dry and rub clean. Pack cucumbers in jars with dill weed or about 1 tsp dill seed per quart.

Add:
4 pods garlic (more or less)
1 tsp pickling spices
1 small piece of alum or a good pinch of powdered alum (add last)

In a granite or stainless steel pot put:
12 C water
6 C white vinegar
1 C pickling salt
1 TBS sugar

Boil together about 10 minutes or longer. Pour the boiling liquid over packed jars and seal tight. Enjoy in about 10 days
