6 T butter
1 C sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 T grated lemon peel (zest from 2 lemons)
1 1/2 C sifted all - purpose flour
1 t baking powder
1/2 t salt
1/2 C milk
1/2 C chopped walnuts (optional)
1/3 C sugar
3 T lemon juice (2 lemons)

Directions:

Preheat oven 350º.
Grease and flour 1 loaf pan.
Cream together butter and sugar. Add beaten eggs and ;lemon peel zest.
Sift flour, baking powder and salt together and add alternately with milk.
Fold in nuts.
Pout into prepared loaf pan.
Bake 1 hour or so until lightly golden brown on top (and toothpick comes out clean)
Remove from oven and cool 15 minutes.
Dissolve 1/3 C sugar with 3 T lemon juice. Pour over bread and let stand 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool.
