French Toast Casserole Recipe

1/2 lb. Country Sausage
1/2 loaf French or Italian bread, sliced
5 eggs
2 c milk
1/3 c maple syrup
1/2 t nutmeg
1 apple, peeled, cored & sliced

Directions:
Directions:
Grease a 10" pie plate. Crumble, cook and drain sausage. Set aside. Cook apple in same skillet for about 3 minutes. Cut bread into slices and lay about 3/4 of the bread in pie plate.
Mix together: eggs, milk, syrup and nutmeg. Spread cooked sausage evenly on top of bread. Spread cooked apples evenly on top of sausage. Top with rest of the bread. Pour mixture evenly on top of all. REFRIGERATE OVERNIGHT. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 55-60 minutes or until set and golden on top.

*This recipe doubles well in a 9 x 13 pan. Allow for longer baking time.
