Chopped Dates 1/2 cup 125ml
Granulated sugar 1/2 cup 125ml
Butter or hard margarine 2 tbsp. 30 ml
Boiling water 1/2 cup 125ml

All-purpose flour 1 1/4 cups 300 ml
Baking powder 1/2 tsp. 2 ml
Baking soda 1/2 tsp. 2 ml
Salt 1/2 tsp. 2 ml

Large egg, fork-beaten 1 1
Vanilla 1/2 tsp. 2 ml
Chopped walnuts/pecans 1/3 cup 75 ml

Directions:
Directions:
Combine first 4 ingredients in large bowl. Stir. Let stand until cool.

Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Stir.

Stir in egg, vanila and walnuts. Turn into greased 7 3/4 x 3 3/4 x 2 1/8 inch foil loaf pan.
Bake 350F oven for 50 minutes until an inserted wooden pick comes out clean.
