3 cups cooked asparagus
4 Tbsp fat, melted
2 Tbsp flour
2 cups milk
1/2 cup grated American cheese
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup dry bread crumbs
2 Tbsp butter

Directions:
Directions:
Cook asparagus just 5 minutes, then place asparagus in casserole. Blend fat and flour, add milk gradually and cook slowly until thickened, stirring constantly. Add cheese and salt. Pour sauce over asparagus, sprinkle with crumbs, dot with butter and bake in slow oven (325) for 30 minutes.
