3 to 4 tart cooking apples
1 qt. bulk sauerkraut or 2 cans of sauerkraut
3 Tbs. butter
3 - 4 Tbs. sugar
1/2 tsp. caraway seed

Directions:
Peel apples, core and cut into eights. Alternate layers of sauerkraut and apples in a 3 qt. saucepan. Add enough water to cover and the rest of the ingredients. Heat to boiling. Reduce heat, cover and simmer 20- 25 minutes, or until apples are very tender. Most of the liquid should be evaporated. Watch carefully while cooking rapidly until all liquid as evaporated. Turn into a hot serving dish and serve immediately.
