3 large Onions, peeled and sliced
1 large Green pepper, minced
3 T. Shortening or oil
1 lb. Ground beef
2 c. Canned tomatoes (1 lb.)
1/2 c. Uncooked white rice
1 t. Chili powder
2 t. Salt
1/8 t. Pepper




Directions:
Directions:
Heat oven to 350°F (moderate oven). Saute' onion and green pepper in oil until onion is yellow. Add meat and brown until mixture falls apart. Stir in rest of ingredients. Pour into greased 2-qt. baking dish. Cover and bake 1 hour, removing cover last 15 minutes. Serve hot. 6 servings.

In 1964 Carol Myers Wold won a contest sponsored by the Texas Sweet 'n' Mild Onion growers. The prize was a trip to Washington D.C. While she was there, Texas Hash was on the menu at the Senate Dining Room in the U.S. Capitol.
