1-1/2 c. butter flavored Crisco (Shortening)
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. packed light brown sugar
3 eggs
2 t. vanilla extract
3-1/3 c. all-purpose flour
1-1/2 t. baking soda
3/4 t. salt
4 c. (24-oz pkg.) Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips

Directions:

Heat oven to 375ºF. In large mixer bowl, beat shortening, granulated sugar and brown sugar until creamy. Add eggs and vanilla; beat until light and fluffy.

Stir together flour, baking soda and salt; gradually beat into butter mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake 8 to 10 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool slightly; removed from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely.

You can use butter and that is what the original recipe called for. However, after years of experimenting, I found that shortening did not spread the cookie as it baked.
