1 c. chopped dates
1 tsp. soda
1 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
2 T. butter or margarine, melted
1 unbeaten egg
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2/3 c.chopped walnuts
1/4 c. chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
In a small bowl, sprinkle soda over dates. Add boiling water; let stand 10 minutes. In a large bowl, add dry ingredients alternately with date mixture. Stir in nuts, chocolate chips and vanilla. Grease one large loaf pan. Bake at 325 about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
