1 cup water to 1 cup raisins
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp. allspice
nuts (optional)

Glaze: 1 cup powdered sugar, generous vanilla, 2 Tblsp. butter, hot water

Boil raisins and water for 5 min. Cool. Cream well, the shortening, sugar. Add eggs and beat well. Add vanilla and the cooled raisin mixture. Combine the dry ingredients. Add to the raisin mixture and blend well. Spread in a greased pan.

Bake at 350º about 15 min. Have glaze ready to put on cookies while hot.

For glaze add HOT water to the powdered sugar, vanilla and butter to make a thin spread.

My mother made these often. I loved them! My own children weren't as big on raisins as they were on chocolate chips, so I didn't end up making them as often. They are still a delicious bar cookie.
