3/4 cup shortening (part butter)
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 tsp vanilla (or lemon) extract
2 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs and flavoring until well smooth. Blend flour baking powder and salt in another bowl. Stir into wet mixture and mix well. Chill at least 1 hour. Roll 1/8 in thick on a floured surface (or 1/2 in for a softer cookie) and cut in desired shapes. Place on a ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 400º for 6-8 minutes. Bake just a little longer if cookies are larger than 3 in.
