1 CUP LIGHT CORN SYRUP
1 1/2 TEASPOON SALT
2 TABLESPOONS BUTTER
1/4 TEASPOON PEPPERMINT OIL OR OTHER FLAVOR OIL
7 DROPS FOOD COLORING TO MATCH FLAVOR
1 CUP WATER

COMBINE SUGAR, SYRUP, SALT, AND WATER IN 2 QUART SAUCEPAN. COOK SLOWLY, STIRRING CONSTANTLY UNTIL SUGAR DISSOLVES. COOK TO HARD BALL STAGE (265 DEGREES) WITHOUT STIRRING. REMOVE FROM HEAT, STIR IN REMAINING INGREDIENTS POUR INTO BUTTERED 15 1/2 X 10 1/2 PAN. COOL UNTIL ABLE TO BE TOUCHED SAFELY. BUTTER HANDS, AND ROLL TAFFY INTO BALL AND PULL. CONTINUE PULLING AND KNEADING UNTIL CANDY IS LIGHT IN COLOR AND GETS HARD. WITH BUTTERED SCISSORS , QUICKLY SNIP INTO BITE SIZE PIECES. WRAP EACH PIECE IN WAX PAPER.
