1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vinegar
1 cup water
1 cup sifted all purpose flour
2 teaspoon double acting backing powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon shortening
3/4 cup milk
5 cups sliced, pared, cored cooking apples
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
dash of nutmeg
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoon butter or margarine

Directions:
Directions:
In saucepan, mix sugar, 1/4 cup flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt; stir in vinegar, water; cook over low heat, stirring, until thickened. Set this sauce aside.

Preheat oven 375º. Sift 1 cup flour, baking powder, 3/4 teaspoon salt. With 2 knives, scissor-fashion, cut in shortening until the size of peas; add milk; stir until moistened but still lumpy.

Arrange apples in greased 12"x8"x2" baking dish. To sauce, add cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, vanilla, butter; pour over apples. Drop dough on top of apples. Bake 40 minutes, or until brown.

Serve warm, with vanilla ice cream....
