6 c water
1 ham bone with some meat attached
1 c canned tomatos
2 onions
1 potato
1 carrot
1/2 c celery
1/2 bay leaf
1.4 t dried thyme
1/4 t black pepper
1 t salt

Directions:
Directions:
rinse limas in cold water and drain, place in large pot and add 6 c water, ham bone, tomatoes bring to boil

Chop onion, dice potato, slice carrot and celery and add to kettle, season with bay leaf, thyme salt and pepper

Turn heat to simmer cover and cook gently until limas are tender about 2-1/2 hours.

Remove ham bone and cut meat and return to pan, 1 T of brown sugar may be added, sweetness is favored by some.
