Directions:
Cream butter and sugar, using electric mixer. Add egg and beat well. Add vanilla, milk and 2 tablespoons of port. Chop very fine or whirl in blender 1 cup nuts. Place nuts in a mixing bowl, add dry ingredients and stir. Fold in butter – egg mixture to make a batter; do not overbeat. Spoon into a lightly buttered and floured 9 in. cake pan. Bake at 350 F for 15 or 20 minutes, or until cake just tests done. As soon as cake is removed from oven, brush top with 2 to 3 tablespoons port. Cool to room temperature and spread with glaze. Sprinkle with chopped walnuts and let stand until firm. Cut into 16 squares.

Personal Notes:
These cake-like treats are a wonderful addition to a tray of homemade cookies for any special occasion. I've been serving them at Christmas Time, parties and showers since finding the recipe in a "Woman's Day" magazine in 1966. They are an absolute all-time favorite of daughters Andria and Alissa, and I always find myself making a double batch.
