Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 lb dry great northern beans
2 T vegetable oil
1 large onion, diced
1 can (28 oz ) Dei Fratelli petite diced tomatoes
1/2 cup ketchup
2 T vinegar
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 T prepared mustard (French's)
1/2 t black pepper
1/4 to 1/2 lb ground round
4 slices bacon, chopped and cooked
Bake in 350 oven 20 min or so or heat in pan on stove

Directions:
Directions:
Place the washed beans in a large pan or bowl. Cover with cold water and soak
overnight. Drain and rinse beans very well under cold water.
Place beans in a large heavy pot. Add enough water to cover the beans by 2
inches. Bring water to a boil, reduce heat and simmer and cook for 45 minutes,
or until beans are tender, but not mushy. Drain beans
Place the oil in a large, heavy skillet, add chopped onion and saute a few minutes. Remove mixture to a large heavy casserole.
In the skillet brown ground round and chopped bacon.
Mix tomatoes, ketchup, vinegar, prepared mustard with onion and meat
mixture. Bake covered for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake another 30 min
Add salt and pepper last. For some reason, salt toughens the beans if added
sooner.
For vegetarian, skip the ground round and bacon
