2 1/4 c. flour-unsifted
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1/8 tsp. salt
1 c. butter (can use margarine)
1 1/4 c. confectioners sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Cream butter and confectioners sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Shape dough in two rolls about 2 inches in diameter.

Wrap in waxed paper and chill thoroughly. Cut roll in slices about 7 inch thick with sharp knife. Place on ungreased baking sheets.

Bake in 375º oven 8-10 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from baking sheets: cool on racks. Makes about 5 dozen cookies.
