7 pounds pickles
2 qts water
1 tbsp alum
3 1/2 pounds sugar
1/2 tsp oil of cloves
1/2 tsp oil of cinnamon

Directions:
Directions:
Soak 7 pounds pickles overnight in 2 quarts water with 1 tbsp alum. Drain. Cook until done. Not over done. Make syrup. 3 1/2 pounds sugar, 1/2 tsp oil of cloves, 1/2 tsp oil of cinnamon. Bring to a boil. Pour over pickles, next day reheat syrup and pour again over pickles. Likewise the third day.
