2/3 c. oil or melted shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1/3 c. buttermilk
1 1/3 c. molasses

4 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cloves
1 1/2 tsp. soda

Directions:
Directions:
Mix soda into buttermilk. Mix the rest of the wet ingredients. Sift dry ingredients. Mix everything together and pour into a greased 13 x 9 casserole pan. Place in the oven at 350º and bake ten minutes. Pull out and knock down batter by dropping the pan carefully on a flat heat resistant surface. Bake for another 25 minutes or until desired doneness.
