1/2 C. honey
1/2 C. molasses
3/4 c. brown sugar
1 egg
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1tsp. grated lemon rind
2 3/4 C. flour
1/2 tsp. soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/3 c. cut up citron
1/3 c. nuts

Icing:
1 c. sugar and 1/2 c. water
1/4 c. powdered sugar -- added separately, later
Directions:
Directions:
mix honey and molasses and bring to a boil. Cool thoroughly.
Stir in sugar, egg, lemon juice and lemon rind.
stir in flour, soda, cinnamon and cloves.
stir in allspice and nutmeg. Add citron, nuts and stir.

Chill dough overnight. Roll small amount at a time., keeping rest chilled.
Roll out 1/4" thick and cut into rectangles. 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" Place 1" apart on greased baking sheet. Bake until, when touched lightly, no imprint remains - about 10 -12 min.
While cookies bake, make Glazing Icing. Mix sugar and water and cook to 230 degrees or until small amount spins a 2" thread. Add 1/4 c. powdered sugar. If icing gets sugary, add a small amount of water and reheat. Brush it over the cookies the minute they are out of oven. Store in an airtight container.

I think all of us can remember Grandma making these at Christmas time. She always made them far in advance. She said they tasted better when they stored for awhile. They last a very long time in an air tight container.
