4 cups fresh asparagus, washed, trimmed, cut in ½ inch pieces
2 cups water, divided, plus cooking liquid
5 T. butter
5 T. flour
1 tsp. onion powder
¾ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. white pepper
4 cups milk
1 T. chicken bouillon

Directions:
Directions:
In medium saucepan, on medium heat cook asparagus in 1 cup water until tender-crisp, about 7 minutes, drain, reserve liquid, set aside. On medium heat, melt butter in saucepan, stir in flour, salt and pepper, stirring constantly for 1 minute. Gradually stir in milk, water, reserved liquid and bouillon. Cook, stirring with whisk, until mixture is thickened and hot. Stir in asparagus. Heat through and serve. Makes servings.
