Directions:
Dissolve Jell-O in hot water and set the whole bowl into a larger bowl filled with ice. Beat Jell-O until fluffy. In another bowl beat cream and dry Dream Whip until fairly stiff. Add Jell-O and sugar. Continue beating until it holds its shape. Fold in sherry. Line a glass bowl (with straight sides) with lady fingers. Dip the sides of the lady fingers in the cream and stand them around the sides of the bowl. Also cover the bottom. Some may have to be trimmed to fit flat against the bottom. Layer the cream and lady fingers into the bowl, ending with lady fingers. Candied fruit or maraschino cherries may be added. Garnish as desired. Let ripen in refrigerator overnight.

Personal Notes:
Katherine Mealing was a great cook, particularly for special occasions. At Christmas she always made many Charlottes to give to friends. I looked forward to this dessert at Christmas. I asked her for the recipe. I'll lucky to have this, because she didn't write her recipes down; she cooked by taste and memory.
