4 cups flour
Pinch salt
2 eggs
⅔ cup milk
4 teaspoons sugar
1 pound butter
2 packages yeast

½ teaspoon Dr Oetker vanilla sugar

May fill with plum jam or a walnut filling.

Walnut Filling:
1 pound walnuts, ground (about 2½ to 3 cups)
7 egg whites, beaten
Lemon zest from 1 lemon or 1 teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Work butter into flour until well mixed. Dissolve the yeast in the sugar and warm milk. Add egg and yeast mixture to flour. Work into a smooth dough. Roll into about 12 to 13 balls. Chill overnight. Cover with plastic wrap. Roll out like pie crust. Cut each into 8 triangles.

Grind nuts. Add lemon juice, rind and sugar to taste. Add 1 egg. Add milk as necessary.

Spoon small teaspoonfuls of the walnut filling (or plum jam) onto crescents and roll up. Bake at 350° F until done, about 15 to 17 minutes. Roll warm kipfels in a mixture of sugar and ½ teaspoon vanilla sugar.
