Ingredients:
Ingredients:
6 lb of the old fashioned, hard as a rock pears
10 c sugar
4 T lemon juice

Directions:
Directions:
Peel, core, and slice pears thin. Cover with sugar (do not stir) and let sit overnite. The next day, add lemon juice and heat to boiling, then reduce heat and simmer for 5-6 hours or until juice thickens (approx. the consistency of cold pancake syrup). Put into hot, sterilized canning jars (fresh from the dishwasher, so don't wash them until the 5 hours is up) and use sterile canning lids. These turn out just like grandmother's.
