1/2 c shortening
1/2 c butter
2 c brown sugar
2 eggs
1 t vanilla
3 c plain flour
1 t soda
1 t cream of tartar
1/2 t salt
1 c oatmeal
cinnamon sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening, butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, beating well. Stir in vanilla. Combine next 4 ingredients and add to creamed mixture mixing well. Stir in oats. Chill dough 1 hour.
Divide dough into 3 portions, and shape each into a 12 inch roll. Carefully wrap each roll in waxed paper, and place on a cookie sheet. Chill 4-5 hours or overnite. Unwrap rolls, and cut into 1/4 inch slices. Dip the top of each slice in cinnamon sugar and place on greased cookie sheets. Bake at 350º for 10 minutes. Makes about 8 dozen.
