1 c. salad oil
2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. allspice
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. chopped nuts
1 c. pitted prunes, chopped
Topping:
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 tsp. soda
1 T. light corn syrup
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. coconut (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the oil, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth.
Mix flour, salt, soda and spices then add to the creamed mixture.
Add buttermilk and mix.
Stir in nuts and prunes.
Pour mixture onto a greased and floured 9x13" pan.
Bake at 350º for 40-50 minutes
Topping:
Combine sugar, buttermilk, soda, corn syrup, vanilla and butter in a pan and bring to a boil until it reaches the 'soft ball' stage (234-240º )
Let cake cool for 5 minutes then puncture the top of the cake with a fork, then pour topping over the top of the cake.
