German Sweet Chocolate Cake

1 package (4 oz.) Baker's German Sweet Chocolate
½ cup boiling water
1 cup butter
2 cups sugar
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten, separately
4 egg yolks
1 teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups Swans Down cake flour, sifted
½ teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup buttermilk

Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool. Cream butter and sugar with mixer until fluffy. Add egg yolks, one at a time and beat well after each. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together flour, salt and soda. Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture, beating after each addition until smooth. Fold in beaten egg whites. Pour into three 8-9 in. cake pans, lined on bottoms with paper. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 min. Cool and frost with coconut-pecan frosting.
 

Coconut-Pecan Frosting

1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks
½ cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1⅓ cup Angel Flake Coconut
1 cup pecans, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
Combine milk, sugar, egg yolks and vanilla. Cook and stir over medium heat until thickened (about 12 min.). Add coconut and pecans. Beat until thick enough to spread.
