1 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups brown sugar
2 well beaten eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1 cup dark raisins
1 cup chopped dates
(may substitute other dried chopped fruits if desired)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Sift all dry ingredients. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating until well combined. Add nuts and fruits, then drop by heaping teaspoons onto a greased cookie sheet. Bake in a preheated 375º oven for about 15 minutes.
