1½ cups sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve 1 teaspoon of sugar in 1 cup of lukewarm water and sprinkle yeast over it. Let stand for 10 to 15 minutes. Beat egg yolks and whole eggs until light. Add sugar gradually while beating. Add juice and oil; beat until light. Scald milk; add margarine and salt. Mix with the beaten egg mixture. Add dissolved yeast mixture. Add enough flour to make a soft dough. Knead the dough until smooth. Add raisins and knead for 5 minutes longer. Cover and let rise in a warm place, until doubled in bulk. Punch down, knead a few times and let rise again. Form into loaves to fill pans about 1/3 full. Grease and line pans with wax or parchment paper. Let rise until doubled in bulk. Brush with beaten egg and 1 teaspoon of sugar. Bake in 350°F oven for 10 minutes, then bake in 275°F oven until done.
When baked, let set in pans for 10 minutes, then remove from pans and place on a very soft surface (pillow) to cool.
