1 lb dried figs
1 lb dried apricots
1 lb mixed dried fruits
½ lb pitted prunes
1 cup golden raisins
1 lemon, sliced (or 1 orange, sliced)
2 cinnamon sticks
5 whole cloves
10 cups water
½ to 1 cup sugar or honey (optional)
¼ cup brandy or orange liqueur (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Wash fruits. Place all dried fruit, lemon, cinnamon and cloves in a nonaluminum saucepan. Add water; cover and let stand for 4 hours, or overnight. Add sugar; bring to a boil and simmer, covered, until fruit is tender, about 10 minutes. Taste, adding sugar or honey, if desired. Let cool slightly. Add brandy, if desired. Makes 12 to 16 small servings.
