"As I ate the oysters with their strong taste of the sea and their faint metallic taste that the cold white wine washed away, leaving only the sea taste and the succulent texture, and as I drank their cold liquid from each shell and washed it down with the crisp taste of the wine, I lost the empty feeling and began to be happy, and to make plans."--Ernest Hemingway

Directions:
Sift flour, baking powder and salt. Cream shortening and butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, egg and milk: beat thoroughly. Add dry ingredients and mix well. Divide dough in about 4 sections. Working with one section at a time, roll dough to about 1/8 inch thick. Cut with round cookie cutter and place on lightly greased pan about 1-1/2 in apart. Put about 1 tsp. of raspberry jam in middle of each round of dough. Put another round of dough on top. Continue until sheet is full. Bake gently in 350-degree oven for about 10 minutes.
