6 quart cucumbers
Water
6 c. vinegar
7 c. sugar

Cut a heaped 6 qt. basket of cucumbers lengthwise. Dissolve 1 1/2 c. salt in 15 c. boiling water. Pour hot over cucumbers. Let stand for 5 days. Drain and cover with boiling water. Let stand 1 day. Repeat, adding small amount of green colour if desired (only a drop or two). Next day, drain and discard water. Boil a handful of mixed pickling spice (Tied in a bag) in 6 c. vinegar. Add 7 c. sugar. Pour hot syrup over cucumbers. Drain off and reheat syrup and pour back on cucumbers every day for 4 days. Place cucumbers in jars. Pour hot syrup over. Seal
