Ingredients:  
1 1/2 cup of chopped dates
1 cup of boiling water
1 tsp. baking soda
1 egg
1/4 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Icing
5 tbsp. brown sugar
3 tbsp. butter or oleo
2 tbsp. cream milk

Directions:
Directions:
Mix dates, water and soda.
Add egg, shortening, sugar,add flour, baking powder, salt, nuts, vanilla.
Bake at 350º for 45 minutes.

Icing
Boil 3 minutes pour over cake. Add nuts or coconut.
