Ingredients:
4-1/2 to 5 lb. bottom round or rump roast
2 Tbsp. oil
2 slices of bacon
1/3 cup onions, chopped
1 cup water
1-1/2 Tbsp. Maggi seasoning sauce
Dash or two of Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. wine vinegar
1/2 stick carrot, quartered

Dash of pepper
3 Tbsp. flour
2 Tbsp. butter

Directions:
In a heavy pot, brown meat well in oil; avoid burning. Remove meat. Add bacon and onions; brown lightly. Return meat. Add rest of ingredients except flour and butter. Simmer slowly, turning at times, until tender, about 2-1/2 hours. Remove meat. Strain and remove fat from drippings. Cook about 3 Tbsp. flour and 2 Tbsp. butter until light brown. Add meat juices and cook to thicken; adding water if necessary. This pot roast is better if sliced and stored in gravy until the next day.
Serve with red cabbage, mashed potatoes, green beans and a cucumber salad.
