1 1/4 cups cooked prunes (or 1 cup pulp)

1/2 cup shortening
1 1/2 cups brown sugar (packed)
2 eggs beaten
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp allspice
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk

Cut prunes from pits into small pieces to make 1 cup pulp. Cream shortening adding sugar gradually. Blend in beaten eggs. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, soda and spices. Add to the creamed mixture alternately with sour milk, beginning and ending with dry mixture. Blend prunes and mix thoroughly. Pour into two greased 9 inch layer cake pans. Bake in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 25-35 minutes. Cool. Large pan bake for 45 minutes in oven.
