1 1/2 cups white flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 shortening
1/4 cup butter
4-5 tbsp. ice water

Preheat oven to 425º
Grease a 9-inch pie plate.
In a large bowl, combine flour and salt.
With a pastry blender cut the shortening and butter (or 2 forks) until the mixture becomes a coarse meal.
Gradually add, 1 tbsp. at a time, the ice water while mixing the meal until a ball of dough is formed.
On a lightly floured surface place the ball of dough for rolling.
Rolling from the centre, roll the dough until it is about 1/8-inch thickness.
Place in pie plate .
If prebaking place in preheated oven for approximately 8 minutes.
If not, fill the pie crust with filling and bake accordingly.

To make a little different, add a couple teaspoons of your favorite spice to the dough while mixing. Use spices like nutmeg or cinnamon for a sweet pie. For a savory pie use, oregano, garlic or even cumin. Make it match your filling.
