2 cakes yeast
1/2 cup water
1 tsp. salt
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups scalded milk
1 cup mashed potatoes
2 eggs
6-7 cups flour

Directions:
Directions:
Put yeast into water, add salt, sugar, add shortening to scalded milk and cool. Add mashed potatoes, eggs, yeast, and flour. Roll dough out to about 1/2 inch thickness, cut with a doughnut cutter. Let dough rise for 1 hour and then fry in fat at 350 degrees F.
GLAZE: 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 tsp vanilla and a little warm water. You can also sugar them by putting granulated sugar in a plastic bag, shake warm Spud Nuts in bag with sugar.

We cherished our visits with Granny. The boys were always treated with warm doughnuts as they arrived home from school. Her title in our house was The Doighnut Maker. Try as I may I never could quite measure up to hers. Francis says, " the recipe went to heaven with the doughnut maker".
