4 eggs, separate white and yolk, room temperature
1 tsp vanilla
3/4 c sugar
1/2 c butter, melt
3/4 c all purpose flour
2 c milk
powdered sugar for dusting

preheat oven to 325*
Grease 9" pie dish
Separate egg white and yolk.
Beat the egg whites until they are stiff. Set aside.
Beat the egg yolks with the sugar until light color. Add melted butter and vanilla and beat for one or two minutes, then slowly add the flour to fully incorporate.
Slowly start adding milk and beat until all is well mixed.
Add the egg whites whisking them into mixture a third at a time.
Pour batter into baking dish and bake 40 to 70 minutes or until top is lightly golden and center does not jiggle.
After cake is cooled sprinkle with powdered sugar.

9 servings if baked in 8" square pan.
When adding milk either cover bowl with towel or put in sink, it will splatter no matter how slowly you beat it in.
If cake jiggles it is not done, you might have to lay a piece of foil over it if you think it is already golden brown, but still jiggles.
The knife in the middle test works fine, if it comes out clean then it is done.
good topped with a drizzle of caramel, whipped cream or mixture of coconut and pecans toasted in butter.
