8 cups flour
4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2 tsp. baking soda
6 cups firmly packed brown sugar
3 cups shortening
8 cups quick-cooking rolled oats

Use a large pan. Stir together the flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda. Add sugar, mixing well. Cut into shortening very well. Stir in oats. Store ate room temperature in covered container.

Plain oatmeal cookies:
6 cups basic mix (above)
2 well-beaten eggs
1/2 cup milk
2 tsp. vanilla

Nut-Spice - prepare plain oatmeal cookies as above, except omit vanilla. Stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts, 1 tsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. tsp. nutmeg and 1/2 tsp. cloves.

Raisin Oatmeal - prepare plain oatmeal cookies as above, except stir in 1 cup plump raisins.

Peanut Butter - prepare plain oatmeal cookies as above, except stir in 1 cup peanut butter.

Mix ingredients thoroughly. Drop by teaspoon on lightly greased baking sheets.

Bake at 350ºF for about 15 minutes.
