1 lb. ground beef
¾ c. water
⅔ c. chopped pepper
¼ c. ketchup
1 pouch dry onion soup

Directions:
Directions:
In 10 in. skillet over medium heat, cook beef with peppers until meat is browned.
Spoon off fat. Stir in soup mix, water, and ketchup. Heat to boiling, and then reduce heat to low. Cover and simmer 15 min. with occasional stirring. Serve with crusty rolls.

These sandwiches have various names. Actually we called them "taverns" when the kids were home. When I was young, mother called them "hot tamales". In Iowa there was a chain of restaurants called "Maid Rite" and these sandwiches, their signature feature, were called "Maid Rites". In other parts of the country they are called "loose meat's". Oh well....enjoy!
