1/2 cuo butter or lard
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp cloves
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup hot water

Directions:

Cream butter and sugar together
Add the egg and molasses
Mix add the dry ingredients together
Slowly stir in the dry ingredients alternately with the water
Bake at 350º for 15-20 minutes
