Use either kind of apple in ingredients are good. Peel and core apples, slice into sections, cook apples over low heat, add a few cups of water to apples while cooking (to your desire thickest of sauce). A 2 quart saucepan is a good size to do at one time.
Once sauce is boiling and very hot, add a cup of sugar(if desired) bring sauce to a boil again, it should be ready to can, make sure jars and lids are hot and ready to go, and sauce is also very hot.
