1 package active dry yeast
1/2 cup warm water
2 1/2 cups bisquick
1 egg, beaten
1 tbsp. sugar
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
jam or preserves (1/2 to 1 cup)

Directions:

Dissolve yeast in warm water. Stir in bisquick, egg, and 1 tbsp. sugar. Mix well. Knead 20 strokes. Place in the center of large baking sheet. Roll into a 14 x 9 rectangle. Combine cream cheese, sugar, and lemon juice. Spread down the center of the rectangle. Make 3 inch long cuts at 1 inch intervals on both sides. Fold strips at an angle over cheese. Cover and chill overnight. Bake 20 minutes at 350º. Spoon jam down center. Bake 5 more minutes.

For years Mom would fry quail and make biscuits and gravy for brunch on Christmas day. Because we would be hungry way before the quail was done, Mom would make a jam and cheese loaf or 2 on Christmas Eve to cook first thing Christmas morning. It is a favorite that is only enjoyed on Christmas day.
