2 c. raisins
1 c. water
1 tsp. baking soda
2 c. shortening ( part butter)
2 c. brown sugar
3 beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla
3 c. + 3 tbsp. all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. stal
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. cinnamon

Directions:
Boil raisins briskly for 5 minutes (can use dates instead of raisins). Stir in baking soda and cool. Cream shortening, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla together. Fold in flour, salt, baking powder, nutmeg, and cinnamon after sifting. Mix in raisins. Drop onto greased sheets. Bake at 350ºF until set ( 10 min) depending on size.
