1 stick butter
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk

Bring to boil then add:

1 tsp vanilla
1/2 tsp baking soda

I usually double this. Make it in a pot that is plenty big because when you add the soda it totally bubbles over. Just be ready. :)
